Rheology of the Electric Double Layer in Electrolyte Solutions
Summary
Resonance frequency and dissipation of a QCM immersed in sodium chloride, an ionic liquid (BmimCl) and ethylene glycol solutions are used to estimate the shear modulus of the electric double layer. Its storage and loss moduli rise steeply below 1 M and then saturate, with a near-surface viscosity about 50 times (NaCl) and 500 times (BmimCl) that of the bulk.
