Evaluation of Dynamic Viscosity in the 10 MHz Range Using a General-Purpose Quartz Crystal Microbalance
Summary
Can an off-the-shelf QCM measure liquid viscosity at 10 MHz? With ethylene glycol–water mixtures, viscosities from Johannsmann’s equation came out systematically high, an error traced to losses inside the resonator and a non-ideal liquid interface. A calibration equation corrects it, giving dynamic viscosity within about ±3%.
