Quartz Crystal Microbalance Assay of Clinical Calcinosis Samples and Their Synthetic Models Differentiates the Efficacy of Chelation-Based Treatments
Summary
Ground calcinosis samples from patients and synthetic hydroxyapatite were deposited on QCM sensors by electrophoresis and then dissolved by chelator solutions, with sub-second time resolution. Patient material and synthetic mimics dissolved alike, and at pH 7.4 and 37 °C EDTA removed the deposits more than twice as fast as citrate, a ranking confirmed on tablets.
