Quantification of Methane in Water at Parts Per Billion Sensitivity Using a Metal–Organic Framework-Functionalized Quartz Crystal Resonator
Summary
Dissolved methane, a strong greenhouse gas released by wetlands and lakes, is measured with a quartz resonator coated with a porous, hydrophobic metal-organic framework. Methane moves quickly from the water into the empty pores, giving responses in under 60 s with parts-per-billion sensitivity; a working prototype was built and tested on methane-spiked lake water.
