Summary

Polyacrylonitrile nanofibres doped with both citric acid and chitosan are deposited on a QCM to sense ammonia at room temperature. The doubly doped layer reached about 0.63 Hz/ppm, 2.75 times the citric acid version and 39 times plain PAN, and chitosan cut the response to formaldehyde, acetic acid, ethanol, methanol and acetone; adsorption kinetics and Freundlich isotherms describe the mechanism.
