Elliptical Electrode Designs in Quartz Crystal Microbalances: Enhancing Sensitivity in Liquid Biosensing Applications
Summary
Elliptical electrodes on QCM crystals, combined with a single-droplet assay, make liquid biosensing more sensitive while using less sample. With molecularly imprinted polydopamine films that recognise pepsin, the elliptical design gave up to ten times the sensitivity of the standard one-inch circular crystal and stayed linear over a wider droplet volume range (250 Hz/µL against 50 Hz/µL).
