Acid-Doped Hydrogel Electrolytes for Electrocatalyst Interfaces
Summary
An alternative to perfluorinated ionomers for electrochemical devices: a cross-linked poly(acrylic acid)–poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogel doped with sulfuric acid. It reaches proton concentrations above 15 mmol/g and conductivities up to 350 mS/cm, also in thin films and at fuel-cell humidities, and in a vapour-fed electrolyser it delivered current densities far above Nafion.
