A Novel Physical Investigation of Salt Interactions with Lipid Membranes
Summary
Thesis on how sodium and calcium salts interact with lipid monolayers and bilayers that mimic cell membranes, combining QCM, Langmuir–Schaefer deposition and neutron reflectometry. QCM showed some lipid loss, more erratic with NaCl than CaCl2, while Langmuir isotherms pointed to membrane disruption and possible ion bridging by calcium; instrument faults left the high-CaCl2 runs incomplete.
