abstract = {Epoxy-functional sterically-stabilized diblock copolymer nanoparticles (~27 nm) are prepared via RAFT dispersion polymerization in mineral oil. Nanoparticle adsorption onto stainless steel is examined using a quartz crystal microbalance. Incorporating epoxy groups within the steric stabilizer chains results in a near two-fold increase in the adsorbed amount, Γ, at 20 °C (7.6 mg m-2) compared to epoxy-core functional nanoparticles (3.7 mg m-2) or non-functional nanoparticles (3.8 mg m-2). A larger difference in Γ is observed at 40 °C; this suggests chemical adsorption of the nanoparticles rather than merely physical adsorption. A remarkable near five-fold increase in Γ is observed for larger (~50 nm) epoxy-functional nanoparticles compared to non-functional nanoparticles (31.3 vs. 6.4 mg m-2, respectively). Tribological studies conducted at 60-120 °C confirm that the adsorption of epoxy-functional nanoparticles leads to a significant reduction in the friction coefficient.},

abstract = {Ammonia gas sensors with high sensitivity, good selectivity, and superior stability continue to be developed to monitor ammonia levels in the air. In this study, we developed a sensor based on a quartz crystal microbalance coated with polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) nanofiber overlaid with a polyaniline (PANi) nanocomposite to increase the sensitivity and selectivity of the sensor. The morphology and chemical composition of the fabricated nanofibers were examined by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. PANi nanocomposites were shown to stick to nanofiber, and nanofiber became many active groups after PANi overlay. The QCM sensor coated with the PVAc nanofiber overlaid with 0.05% PANi (PVAc/PANi5) exhibited the highest sensitivity of 0.297 Hz/ppm. This value was increased 5.2 times compared to the sensor without the PANi overlay (0.055 Hz/ppm). The PVAc/PANi5 sensor exhibited good reproducibility, repeatability, and reversibility. Moreover, a rapid response (36 s) and recovery (26 s) time were observed. The sensor also showed good selectivity towards other analytes and was proven to have good long-term stability during two months of testing. This finding may potentially be an alternative method for increasing the ammonia-sensing performance of a sensor through overlaying.},

abstract = {RAFT aqueous emulsion polymerization of isopropylideneglycerol monomethacrylate (IPGMA) is used to prepare a series of PGEO5MA46-PIPGMAy nanoparticles, where PGEO5MA is a hydrophilic methacrylic steric stabilizer block bearing pendent cis-diol groups. TEM studies confirmed that well-defined spherical nanoparticles were obtained while DLS analysis indicated that the z-average particle diameter could be adjusted from 68 nm to 188 nm by systematically varying the target degree of polymerization for the core-forming PIPGMA block. Sodium periodate was employed as a selective oxidant to convert the cis-diol groups on PGEO5MA46-PIPGMA500 and PGEO5MA46-PIPGMA1000 nanoparticles into the analogous aldehyde-functionalized nanoparticles, which were then reacted with histidine via reductive amination. In each case, the extent of functionalization was more than 99% as judged by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Moreover, aqueous electrophoresis studies indicated that such derivatization converted initially neutral nanoparticles into nanoparticles that exhibit an isoelectric point (IEP) at around pH 7. Interestingly, DLS studies confirmed that such histidine-derivatized nanoparticles remained colloidally stable over a wide pH range, with no sign of any aggregation at around the IEP. A quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) was employed at 25 °C to assess the extent of adsorption of both the cis-diol- and histidine-functionalized nanoparticles onto a planar stainless steel substrate at pH 6. The histidine-bearing nanoparticles adsorbed much more strongly than their cis-diol counterparts. For the highest adsorbed amount of 70.5 mg m-2, the adsorbed layer of nanoparticles was examined by SEM, which enabled a fractional surface coverage of 0.23 to be estimated via digital image analysis.},

abstract = {According to the World Health Organization, long-term exposures to heavy metal toxicants such as arsenic (As) and lead (Pb), even at the parts per billion (ppb, μg/L) level, can cause severe health problems such as cancer, skin lesions, and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, an accurate and rapid heavy metal toxicant monitoring technique is needed. This research investigated the proof-of-the concept of a portable sensor for detecting As and Pb in water. The sensor system utilized a Quartz Crystal Microbalance - QCM (openQCM w-i2) system interfaced with a computer as the sensing platform. It was further integrated with a peristaltic pump and required tubing to create the integrated sensing system. It used a 10 MHz AT-cut quartz crystal gold electrode as the sensing substrate. For the determination of As in water, dithiothreitol (DTT) was used as the ligand to be deposited on the gold electrode using the Self-assembly-monolayer method (SAM). For the determination of Pb, a combination of ligands (Chitosan, Glutaraldehyde, and lead ionophore II - CGL) was used and deposited on the gold electrode using the spin-coating method. The system was tested for As in water with specific concentrations (0, 50, 100, and 200 ppb) under laboratory conditions. Similarly, the system was tested for Pb in water with different concentrations (0, 10, 25, 50, and 100 ppb) under laboratory conditions. The resulted change of frequency (with respect to time, in seconds) of the QCM system to different concentrations of the individual analyte was recorded. Subsequently, the recorded data were analyzed to determine the correlation model and coefficient of determination, R2. The maximum R2 values for detecting As and Pb were 0.963 and 0.991, respectively. Thus, this proof-of-the-concept study using the developed QCM-based sensing system for detecting As and Pb in water was successful.},

abstract = {Previously, several high-sensitivity and inexpensive humidity sensors with rapid response times have been reported. However, obtaining reliable humidity characteristics of highly sensitive devices, such as quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors, requires the development of new, affordable gas transmission setups. With that in mind, we developed a novel, comprehensive gas transmission system that combined elements from two commonly used systems (saturated salts and gas mixing), which facilitated automatic gas humidity changes, reliable gas flows in closed measurement chambers, and limited the influence of the external atmosphere/pollutants. The gas transmission device performance was tested using a commercial digital hygrometer and highly sensitive QCM coated with graphene oxide for six different humidity sets in range 5.3–82.6% RH. The dynamic repeatability tests proved the superb stability of the system, as QCM frequency deviation did not exceed 2% of frequency shifts among ten switching cycles (one hour each). Therefore, this system allowed a thorough investigation of humidity sensors properties in a controlled environment with a high precision.},

abstract = {Integration of advanced and functional materials onto conventional sensing platforms can improve the device performances and even discover new applications. For piezoelectric resonant sensors, an addition of sensing materials can induce damping and hinder a stable device operation. Hence, the development of efficient method for materials integration is important to ensure high-performance and reliable sensor operation. This work presents a direct and precisely controlled integration of graphene oxide (GO) using the electrospray deposition (ESD) onto a 10 MHz Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) for humidity sensing. The proposed ESD method achieves a high mass resolution of a few nanograms. Moreover, the GO uniformly coats across the sensing electrode region as it acts as a ground electrode during ESD. The proposed ESD method also works for a wide range of nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes, tin oxide, and silicon carbide micro-and nano-powders. Compared to the conventional drop-casting and dip coating approaches, our method ensures minimal GO agglomeration, resulting in a stable QCM-oscillator operation in a wide range of relative humidity from 11% to 97%. The measurement sensitivity increases with an amount of GO, but less GO results in better noise and detection limit performances. The results shed light on the importance of selecting an optimal amount of sensing materials for stable sensor operations.},

abstract = {Cleaning a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) plays a crucial role in the regeneration of its biosensors for reuse. Imprecise removal of a receptor layer from a transducer's surface can lead to unsteady operation during measurements. This article compares three approaches to regeneration of the piezoelectric transducers using the electrochemical, oxygen plasma and Piranha solution methods. Optimization of the cleaning method allowed for evaluation of the influence of cleaning on the surface of regenerated biosensors. The effectiveness of cleaning the QCM transducers with a receptor layer in the form of a peptide with the KLLFDSLTDLKKKMSEC-NH2 sequence was described. Preliminary cleaning was tested for new electrodes to check the potential impact of the cleaning on deposition and the transducer's operation parameters. The effectiveness of the cleaning was assessed via the measurement of a resonant frequency of the QCM transducers. Based on changes in the resonant frequency and the Sauerbrey equation, it was possible to evaluate the changes in mass adsorption on the transducer's surface. Moreover, the morphology of the QCM transducer's surface subjected to the selected cleaning techniques was presented with AFM imaging. The presented results confirm that each method is suitable for peptide-based biosensors cleaning. However, the most invasive seems to be the Piranha method, with the greatest decrease in performance after regeneration cycles (25% after three cycles). The presented techniques were evaluated for their efficiency with respect to a selected volatile compound, which in the future should allow reuse of the biosensors in particular applications, contributing to cost reduction and extension of the sensors' lifetime.},

Equilin (Equ) is one of the estrogenic hormones that have a maximum contaminant level of 0.35 µg/L in the chemical pollutants list. In this study, estrogenic hormones were precisely detected in a short time by affinity-recognition-based interactions in Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) sensors. The QCM sensors were modified with 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid forming a self-assembled monolayer and with amino acids, namely tyrosine, tryptophan and phenylalanine. The affinity interactions between Equ and amino acids were studied using docking tools and confirmed by QCM experiments. The LODs of Equ were obtained as 4.59, 5.05 and 6.30 ng/L for tyrosine-, tryptophan- and phenylalanine-modified QCM nanosensors, respectively, with linear dynamic detection in the range of 25–500 nM. In terms of the LOD, selectivity and sensitivity calculations, the tyrosine-modified QCM nanosensor was found to have the highest performance for Equ detection compared to the tryptophan- and phenylalanine-modified ones.},

Thus, quartz crystal microbalance is a well-known and reliable method for monitoring film thickness. However, most commercial devices use very simple signal processing methods, offering only a readout of the frequency change value and an approximate sputtering rate. Here, we show our concept of instrument, to better control the process parameters and for easy replication. The project uses open-source data and its own ideas, fulfilling all the requirements of a measuring system and contributing to the open-source movement due to the added value and the replacement of obsolete technologies with contemporary ones. The device provides an easy way to expand existing sputtering machines with a proper controller based on our work. abstract = {The transport of molecules and compounds across cell membranes is vital for life and a process that has been the topic of intricate research for some time. However, it has been a challenge due to cell membranes dynamic and complex nature. It has been known for years that an effective way to undergo this research was to investigate the interactions of lipid membranes, these serve as an appropriate mimic to the cell membranes, and by looking at molecule – lipid interactions it can greatly help to predict the mechanisms of transport and furthermore the effects of these interactions. The following work explores the area of salt interactions with lipid membranes. It is well known that various salts have significant importance on bodily functions and physiological impacts yet their interactions with membranes seem obscure. In order to attempt to elucidate this topic of research, an investigation was carried out which focuses on sodium and calcium interactions with monolayers and bilayers. This was conducted using a Quartz Crystal Microbalance, Langmuir-Schaefer deposition and data retrieved Neutron reflectometry experiments. Whereby the aim of these experiments was to provide a coherent and thorough practical study to be considered along the vast simulation studies present in this area of research. The QCM data revealed some lipid loss overall. Although some of this may have been due to the initial lipid deposition as there is evidence suggesting some aggregates forming. This loss of lipid occurred more erratically for NaCl than it did for CaCl₂. Unfortunately, due to faults in the QCM system and software, data from higher concentrations of CaCl₂ was unable to be retrieved, therefore a full comparison could not be made between sodium and calcium QCM runs. For the Langmuir isotherms which focused on monolayers, an overall decrease in area per molecule was observed. Similar to the QCM, this implied disruption of the lipid. Although a more in-depth look into the data also suggests a possibility of monolayer saturation. The data also provides an indication towards Ion bridging occurring between lipids, however this only seen with the CaCl2 isotherm. Neutron reflectometry data was collected from a single bilayer of hDPPC in an CaCl2 subphase, this data was then fit with Rascal software. The SLD profiles revealed that the salt solutions applied had little effect on the bilayer and the interaction was minimal. When comparing the neutron data to the QCM or Langmuir it was proven difficult as any loss of lipid as implied prior would have been beyond the detection of a neutron reflectometry experiment due to the resolution being too high. Neutron reflectometry data was also collected from SURF on floating bilayers, this was also fit using Rascal. Again, the floating bilayer experienced little change with the addition of CaCl2 overall. However, a more in-depth look was conducted investigating the fluid and gel phases. It was here that the results revealed affects to the parameter values which further implied ion bridging and the lipid disruption much like the Langmuir isotherm data. An overview of the results revealed a concurrence that the addition of NaCl and CaCl2 salt solutions to DPPC lipid membranes had little effect, however it is shown that the methods provided evidence leading to suggested disruptions in the lipid, the QCM demonstrated this through mass losses, whilst the isotherms and neutron reflectometry experiments displayed overlaps in data. Therefore, it can be confidently said that the experiments met the aims of the study, which was to provide practical evidence of salt interactions with lipid membranes. This is promising for future work as shows potential for practical avenues to be explored in this topic that can be combined with simulation studies.},

abstract = {Stimuli-induced anticancer therapies based on remotely activated nanoagents have drawn a great deal of attention as attractive alternatives to conventional therapies. The rapid development of nanomaterial functionalization in the past few decades has allowed for the tailoring of hybrid nanoagents with dual anticancer activity and the simultaneous application of two complementary stimuli-triggered therapies, enhancing a therapeutic effect. In this study, the synthesis and characterization of the novel aminated chitosan-coated magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) with zinc(II) phthalocyanine (ZnPc) immobilized on their surface are presented. The synthetized ZnPc-MNPs combine the superparamagnetic properties of MNPs and the photosensitizing potential of ZnPc, which makes them promising nanomaterials with application potential in dual anticancer therapy based on hyperthermia and photodynamic effects. To understand and describe the mechanism of the ZnPc-MNPs action at the molecular level, we used a variety of surface approaches. Analytical techniques provided information on the structure, morphology, and size of the obtained ZnPc-MNPs. The stationary and time-resolved spectroscopy methods showed that the immobilization of the photosensitizer on the MNP surface boosts its photophysical parameters important from a photodynamic therapy point of view. Because of the decrease in the fraction of excitation energy exchange into heat of the ZnPc-MNPs, the singlet oxygen generation quantum yield increased to 0.57, improving its anticancer activity. Moreover, it was shown that ZnPc immobilized on the MNP surface does not aggregate even despite aggregation of the ZnPc-MNPs. As a result, ZnPc preserves its spectral properties beneficial for a photosensitizer. Finally, the effect of the ZnPc-MNPs on model cell membranes formed by applying a Langmuir technique was studied. The studies performed indicate that the MNPs introduced into the phospholipid monolayer at low concentrations do not significantly disturb its thermodynamic state, or the domain structure, which is promising in terms of their biocompatibility.},

abstract = {The development of acoustic wave sensors was driven by the presence of modern technology. Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) has excellent sensing capabilities and has wide range of applications. Selection of sensing layer is crucial to ensure the performance of the QCM sensor for volatile organic compound (VOC) detection.Hence, the objective of this paper is to compare the performance of chitosan coated QCM sensor for different analyte gas: isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Finite element simulation was implemented using COMSOL Multiphysics to study the resonance frequency shift before and after sensing. Simulation results shows IPA detection shows a higher resonance frequency shift of 62.5 Hz compared to acetone due to higher molar mass. Experimental work is conducted to validate the simulation results where IPA analyte gas yields in 84.8 Hz which is higher than acetone analyte gas at 41.8 Hz. The functional groups for both sensing layer and analyte gas also affects the gas detection performance. IPA analyte gas possessed hydroxyl groups that favors to hydrogen bond formation with chitosan sensing layer. Thus, the QCM sensor with chitosan as the sensing layer has the potential for VOC sensing of different molar mass and functional groups.},

abstract = {For the first time, a procedure has been established for the growth of surface-anchored metal–organic framework (SURMOF) copper(II) benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (Cu-BDC) thin films of thickness control with single molecule accuracy. For this, we exploit the novel method solution atomic layer deposition (sALD). The sALD growth rate has been determined at 4.5 Å per cycle. The compact and dense SURMOF films grown at room temperature by sALD possess a vastly superior film thickness uniformity than those deposited by conventional solution-based techniques, such as dipping and spraying while featuring clear crystallinity from 100 nm thickness. The highly controlled layer-by-layer growth mechanism of sALD proves crucial to prevent unwanted side reactions such as Ostwald ripening or detrimental island growth, ensuring continuous Cu-BDC film coverage. This successful demonstration of sALD-grown compact continuous Cu-BDC SURMOF films is a paradigm change and provides a key advancement enabling a multitude of applications that require continuous and ultrathin coatings while maintaining tight film thickness specifications, which were previously unattainable with conventional solution-based growth methods.},

abstract = {Slip length describes the classical no-slip boundary condition violation of Newtonian fluid mechanics, where fluids glide on the solid surfaces. Here, we propose a new analytical model validated by experiments for characterization of the liquid slip using vibrating solid surfaces. Essentially, we use a microfluidic system integrated with quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) to investigate the relationship between the slip and the mechanical response of a vibrating solid for a moving fluid. We discover a liquid slip that emerges especially at high flow rates, which is independent of the surface wetting condition, having significant contributions to the changes in resonant frequency of the vibrating solid and energy dissipation on its surface. Overall, our work will lead to consideration of ‘missing slip’ in the vibrating solid-liquid systems such as the QCM-based biosensing where traditionally frequency changes are interpreted exclusively with mass change on the sensor surface, irrespective of the flow conditions.},

abstract = {The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) measurement technique is utilized in a broad variety of scientific fields and applications, where surface and interfacial processes are relevant. However, the costs of purchasing QCMs is typically high, which has limited its employment in education as well as by scientists in developing countries. In this article, we present an open-source QCM, built on the OpenQCM project, and using an impedance-based measurement technique (QCM-I), which can be built for 200 euro. Our QCM allows for simultaneous monitoring of the frequency change and dissipation, such that both soft and rigid materials can be characterized. In addition, our QCM measurements can be combined with simultaneous electrochemical measurement techniques (EQCM-I). We demonstrate the validity of our system by characterizing the electrodeposition of a rigid metallic film (Cu) and by the electropolymerization of aniline. Finally, we discuss potential improvements to our system.},

abstract = {Natural estrogenic hormones are frequently used as birth control drugs in hormonal treatments for women and as growth precursors of farm animals in veterinary practice. These components threaten human health and wildlife when they are excreted in urine and mixed with water resources or soil, and they also cause serious side effects on aquatic organisms. Estrogenic hormones, which are widely used in postmenopausal hormone replacement therapies for women, are among the leading natural water source pollutants. Estrogenic hormones, which are included in the Endocrine Disrupting Chemical (EDC) pollutants list issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2020, can only be detected above certain limits with the detection methods used today. Equilin (Equ) is one of the estrogenic hormones with health risk level 0.35 µg/L in the chemical pollutants list. In this thesis study, a quartz crystal microbalance nanosensor was prepared for the rapid and effective real-time quantitative determination of Equ, which is one of the endocrine disrupting water pollutants, without the need for expensive devices and the use of specialists, which can measure with high precision. The interactions of both Equ and 17β-estradiol, estrone, estriol estrogenic hormones with this nanosensor system were investigated. On the other hand, interactions of these estrogenic hormones and nanosensor were investigated by computer modeling studies. The use of the AutoDock molecular modeling program has been a tool to facilitate the design of biomimetic ligands with high selectivity and affinity for the target molecule. Tyrosine (Tyr), Tryptophan (Trp) and Phenylalanine (Phe) amino acids were chosen as ligand molecules that will selectively recognize estrogenic hormones according to their three-dimensional geometric structures. By calculating the free binding energies of the intermolecular interactions of amino acids and estrogenic hormones, the molecules that interact the most with each other were determined. The molecular modeling results and the interactions between Equ and Tyr, Trp and Phe were mainly based on hydrophobic interactions. The phenyl ring, indole group and phenyl residue of Tyr, Trp and Phe molecules, respectively, were oriented to the ring structure of Equ by hydrophobic interactions. Within the scope of the thesis, estrogenic hormones were detected sensitively in a short time by affinity-based interactions in the QCM nanosensor system. The QCM nanosensor was prepared by forming a self-assembled monolayer with 11-mercaptodecanoic acid (11-MUA) and then modified with the amino acids Tyr, Trp and Phe. In this thesis, the desorption mechanism of amino acids, unlike conventional QCM sensor systems, was investigated. The detection process was based on the amount of mass removed from the surface instead of the mass increase caused by the molecules attached to the quartz crystal surface. Affinity based interactions between Equ and amino acids were investigated both theoretically by molecular modeling and experimentally by real-time QCM measurements, and the results were compared. The lowest detection limit for Equ was obtained as 4.59, 5.05 and 6.30 ng/L for Tyr, Trp and Phe modified QCM nanosensor with linear dynamic detection in the 25-500nM range, respectively. It was found that Tyr and Trp modified QCM nanosensors had higher performance compared to Phe modified one, according to the changes in resonance frequency occurring in both the detection limit and QCM sensograms. abstract = {Using Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation (QCM-D) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), a series of functional surface coatings were investigated to establish the effects of surface structural and chemical properties on the adsorption characteristics of two model proteins, β-Lactoglobulin (β-Lg) and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA). We show that a free contact scenario, e.g., droplet, that is widely used to evaluate surface energy, is not always equivalent to biofouling conditions where the liquid phase is continuous - releasing the entrapped air from surface geometries could influence the interfacial adsorption process of biomolecules. We observed that surface structuration favoured adsorption of both proteins, especially for the protein of smaller size (β-Lg) as larger amounts of molecules would be required to fill surface geometries. Compact proteinaceous adlayers were observed on the coatings without structure, particularly those containing -CF3 ligands, suggesting stronger adhesion mechanisms due to conformational reorientations of both proteins to facilitate surface binding, especially BSA. In contrast, surface structure led to the formation of soft adlayers as the filling of surface cavities might affect protein conformation and favour protein superposition, hindering removal. We demonstrate how protein-surface binding affinity and packaging density of adsorbed proteins can be modulated as a synergistic effect of surface chemistry and structure, which is of especially importance to the development of anti-fouling coatings.},

abstract = {Biomarkers-based QCM-biosensors are suitable tools for the label-free detection of infectious diseases. In the current study, a QCM-biosensor was developed for the detection of HBsAg. Briefly, anti-HBsAg antibodies were covalently bound to the primary amines after PEI and thiolated-PEI surface modifications of gold-electrode. After RSM optimization, the statistical analysis revealed no significant difference between the immobilization yields of modified layers. Therefore, the PEI-modified QCM-biosensor was selected for further analysis. The PEI-surface was evaluated by FESEM, AFM, ATR-FTIR, and CA measurement. The surface hydrophilicity and its roughness were increased after PEI-coating. Also, FTIR confirmed the PEI-layering on the gold-surface. RSM optimization increased the antibody immobilization yield up to 80%. The QCM-biosensor showed noteworthy results with a wide dynamic range of 1–1 × 103 ng/mL, LOD of 3.14 ng/mL, LOQ of 9.52 ng/mL, and detection capability in human-sera, which were comparable with the ELISA. The mean accuracy of the QCM-biosensor was obtained at 91% when measured by the spike recovery test using human-sera. The biosensor was completely regenerated using 50 mM NaOH and 1% SDS. The benefits provided by the developed biosensor such as broad dynamic range, sensitivity, selectivity, stability, regenerate ability, and low cost suggest its potential application for the non-invasive and timely monitoring of HBV-biomarker.},

abstract = {Transport diffusivity of molecules in a porous solid is constricted by the rate at which molecules move from one pore to the other, along the concentration gradient, i.e. by following Fickian diffusion. In heterogeneous porous materials, i.e. in the presence of pores of different sizes and chemical environments, diffusion rate and directionality remain tricky to estimate and adjust. In such a porous system, we have realized that molecular diffusion direction can be orthogonal to the concentration gradient. To experimentally determine this complex diffusion rate dependency and get insight of the microscopic diffusion pathway, we have designed a model nanoporous structure, metal-organic framework (MOF). In this model two chemically and geometrically distinct nanopores are spatially oriented by an epitaxial layer-by-layer growth method. The specific design of the nonporous channels and quantitative mass uptake rate measurements have indicated that the mass uptake is governed by the interpore diffusion along the direction orthogonal to the concentration gradient. This revelation allows chemically carving the nanopores, and accelerating the interpore diffusion and kinetic diffusion selectivity.},
