Platelet Reactivity to Zika and Dengue Non-Structural Protein 1 (NS1) Assessed by Flow Cytometry, Atomic Force Microscopy, and Quartz Crystal Microbalance
Summary
Platelet reactivity to the NS1 proteins of Zika and dengue viruses is studied with three techniques: flow cytometry for activation markers, atomic force microscopy for cell shape and QCM for platelet binding to NS1-coated quartz. NS1 raised P-selectin expression and GP IIb-IIIa activity, enlarged platelets and produced pseudopods, and gave a significant frequency change when platelet-rich plasma was injected over the crystal.
