Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM)-Based Portable System for Visualizing Reaction Kinetics in Secondary Chemistry Education
Abstract
High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technology has garnered significant attention in the fields of chemical analysis, materials science, biosensing, etc. However, its high cost has hindered its widespread use in secondary chemistry education. Herein, this study presents an affordable QCM-based educational device for secondary chemistry education. It combines a QCM detection module with STM32 and Raspberry Pi to provide real-time experiment visualization, one-click data export to Excel, and a touchscreen-interactive projection system, and it can be used for exploration of the metal activity series, elucidation of the effect of galvanic cells in chemical reactions, comparative analysis of concentration effects, and investigation of the effect of catalyst on H 2 O 2 decomposition. Compared to the traditional hand-held sensors used in chemistry education, this innovative QCM-based platform demonstrates cost-effectiveness, versatility, real-time monitoring capabilities, and broad applicability. Therefore, it empowers educators to perform classroom demonstrations, guide student experiments, and promote extracurricular research, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical scientific investigations in chemistry education.
